    1. Hi Vaibhav,
Happy to see you at the top of the leaderboard.
You seem to be going good, at least with the chapter on ores and metallurgy (given that only 2 people were able to get all 5 correct).
I would suggest you to take a look at the most scoring topics in JEE Advanced: http://amangoeliitb.blogspot.in/2014/04/most-scoring-topics-for-jee-advanced.html

Try saving time by not reading theory from multiple books. Read theory from 1 good book and move on to problems. Participate in test series to get an idea of your weak topics.
Feel free to reach out if you need any help

  3. Excellent initiative Aman! Kudos to your efforts. I've just got one question for you, What was your rate (w.r.t time) of solving problems? Was it around "X"/hour or did it vary greatly? Also, all of us would love to know your approach towards problem solving. Thanks Buddy!

    1. Thanks for the appreciation. I would be happy if you guys can share the platform with your friends as well :)

Rate of solving problems varied a great deal.
Initially the speed was high, but the accuracy was low. By the end of class 11th, I had realized that my speed won't take me anywhere if my accuracy is low. So, I slowed down a bit to focus on accuracy. I tried to write down everything rather than doing things mentally. With time, my accuracy improved. I also started to write faster. Result was that by the end of class 12th, I had a high speed and high accuracy.

    1. You should read more theory if you are unable to solve problems. Read from HC Verma or Resnick Halliday and try understanding in-text examples. Then move to problems. I am sure you can perform better this way

If you are weak at chemistry, read theory from LG Wade (organic) and OP Tondon (Physical). After you feel that you've read enough theory, move on to solve problems. Practice a lot of problems and you are sure to score well.

  7. Hey bhaiya... I'm jasmine in 12 class.. I want to crack iit.. But also have bio as 4th sub......I spend lot of time in studying single topic from multiple book... And only study physics and maths which are my favourite sub.. How I should utilize this 6 crucial months efficiently

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Jasmine, I would suggest you to not ignore chemistry. Chemistry alone can significantly affect your rank. Make a schedule and divide your time smartly.
Read theory a limited number of times. Focus more on solving problems.

For Astronomy, you can take a look at past year NSEA papers. That should give you sufficient idea.

    5. If I seriously want to clear astronomy.. Can you recommend some books?? I see all the books u recommended but there is no book for astronomy... Is there is any research scope in IIT into aerospace??

    6. Research happens in all departments.
I never appeared for Astronomy olympaids and so, I really have no clue about the books to be used. But I think past year papers will give you a good idea of what to expect

  8. Aman, did you use RD.Sharma/ML.Aggrawal as the basic book for maths? If yes, then how? Solved each and every problem or just glanced through?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes definitely! I solved ML Aggarwal class 11th book when I was in class 10th.
I used to read theory from ML Aggarwal and RD Sharma earnestly during my JEE preparation. My logic is that these books will help you build a strong foundation.

I didn't really solve each and every problem. I used these books to read theory and solve a handful of problems to get a feel of the chapter before it is taught in my coaching.

    2. How would you recommend someone in class 11th to approach these books as we have a bit of time constraint?

  9. Aman, Will these problems be available for future use also? I'm in 11th standard and many chapters are yet to be taught for us. It will be good if we attempt the DPPs after the chapter is taught to us. Can you make something like Chapterwise DPPs and make it available for students to attempt at any time?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, don't worry. We are working on that.
All of these problems will be made available category-wise in future. Don't worry if you miss them. Anyway, if you attempt a problem, it gets saved in your past attempts.

    1. Either you have read inadequate theory, or you are going through the phase which everyone goes through - a phase in which you feel that you know theory well enough, but you are unable to solve the problems.
To help people overcome this phase, we will soon provide solutions to the problems made by Soham and myself. That should give you an idea how we approach a problem

  28. Hi Aman Bhaiya i have just solved the DPP of Coordination Compound. Just have to say one thing about todays DPP. The solution to a question in which it was asking which of the following is true.....and the options in which [ Zn Cl2 (NH3)2] it is telling tht it will exist in cis and trans form......although it will not show cis and trans form since it is of terahedral form. And in the solution given tht it is tetrahedral since all position are adjacent to each other...and thts the exact definition of tetrahedral complex not showing geometrical isomer because its all position are equivalent in tetrahedral geometry.....but i think the main concept is not there since Cl and NH3 are monodentate ligands so they form the type [M a2 b2] type complex in this question where M=Zn a=Cl and b=NH3 and this type gives Cis and trans form but here the metal is zinc which will have 3d^10 configuration hence it will of Sp^3 hybridisation that is Teyrahedral in shape and now it exactly suits the definition and hence will not show any cis and trans form....if you see an example like Pt(NH3)2 Cl2 which is exactly the type of above question but here it will show cis and trans form. I have made exactly the same mistake since i saw the type (Ma2b2) i thought it will show cis and trans form but i got it wrong since i did not check the configuration of Zinc there.

Can Soham Ganatra write one more article on how he got back into the race in class 11 after being the last ranker, how he managed time and what were his standings after that in coaching tests? It would be of great help. Thanks again!

present situation-my percentile is around 80 till now.i am weak in organic and coordinate geometry.also speed is creating lot of problem. i am not able to complete my paper.

  46. 1'/3 Hello bhaiya..it ll be a long comment but please go through it once..it might help me..so i m a dropper preparing for jee 17..actually my preparation for jee started in 2012 when i was in 11 class, yeah dont be surprised thats when it started ,so i was sent to kota in 2012 by my parents of course ,i joined a reputed institute ,and like most of the students i struggled with academics initially ,and so in order to overcome that my parents made me join 3 more coachings of individual subjects,so basically my day started at 7 in morning and ended at 9 in evening...i was just going one coaching to another with zero self practice ,thats how my original 11 passed ..now came 2013 when i was in 12 (officially) everything was going fine but suddenly one fine day in mid of july one of my teacher told my mom that i wont be able to crack jee ,and my mom suddenly had this brilliant idea and she shifted me from 12 to 10 ,despite of several fights ,and my strong disapproval i had to loose ..so from july i was going to a institute that taught 10 class ...with that came a lot of expectations from her side that i had to be in top students ...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 2/3 now came 2014 when i was again in 11...expectation increased even more , but they got huge dissapointment when in my first test i got a rank under 50 as against under 10 that they expected ...result was my parents transferred me from my phase to another phase (batches that start later) in hope that i may get a rank under 10....i was by now already so much broken from inside as i thought that i am useless....not to say i lost contacts with all my friends as i couldnt tell them what actually i was doing....i was all alone by myself , ,couldnt interact with teachers as i was to ashamed to tell them my reality....anyways so for whole 11th class ( 2014) i was soo much pressurized that my performance just deteriorated becoming badder day by day in test..i was guilty ,i wanted to run away but i stil kept holding it on now came 2015 i was again in 12 ...test happened ,despite of giving my all i couldnt fuflfil my parents expectation ...this time again comparisions were made ,they started comparing me with top students and that just made me feel worst about myself ...it was the starting of june i remember i tried to commit suicide ...but somehow i got saved and was hospitalized for a week.....i just wanted to die coz i had nobody ,,,i was running away from everyone ,coz i dont even had answers to their questions as to what exactly was i doing.....after that incident they changed and so did i ....they just left me here on my own and there was no pressure nothing ....and i just started hating them for what they did to me....in order to overcome my pain my guilt ,i indulged myself in youtube ,movies internet (something that i hadnt done for past years ) i stopped going to coaching infact i hated going to classes ,only going ocassionally ,didnt gave any test ...they were aware as regular calls were made from my coaching to them, but they didnt paid attention ,nor did i ...these things continued till mid of feb 16 when i realized that i had to give boards ...so i studied whatever i could in remaining time and gave boards and scored an average 83% ...

      Delete
    2. 3/3 And then came mains neesless tonsay i coupdnt clear it ...yes sadness was there .....i was sad coz i had spent 4 years away from family on my own ....i decided that i would do something that i always wanted i.e civil services ...i would like to mention here that i had always been fascinated and interested in civil services ,but my parents had convinced me that only iitians can crack civil services thats why they sent me here ,thats why i came here and agreed to whatever they said...and i was completely wrong in thinking that and agreeing to them .....but it was too late ...anyways so when i decided that i dont wana prepare for jee anymore i was given two choices by them 1)to return to my hometown and join same college that my friends are in abd be two year junior to them 2)or to stay in kota and take a drop.....i chose the latter as i couldnt bear the shame of being my friends junior and more than that to face them after so many years....so i took a drop....joined a reputeted institute again in kota ...this time i distanced myself from my parents only very rarely answering their calls and speaking to them....i indulged myself in studies completely but it was only mid of august when our batches shuffled ,my batchmates who came this year only got a batch up... and i didnt ....this time it was me .. .i was just frustated by this fact and couldnt take it ....i was like ki i am here since last 4 years...what is not in me that is in them....y cant i be in there place?...and yeah instead of fighting and studying more i just stopped studying again ....i mean i would go to coaching that is of 8 hours but just after that i wont feel like doing self study ,constantly thinking about past years ,either i would fall off sleep or watch youtube videos and read successfull peope stories ,and yeah that is what like my basic routine is till now....my parents are admanant that i will have to go back to my hometown btw i also belong to kanpur ,if tjis time also i failed ....which i cant really go as i dont have guts to face my friends tell tgem my story and be tgeir junior ,i cant do that....i have 6 months left i really want to make it to iits bhaiya because i dont gave any choice....please tell me how and what shouod i do in these months ....i really dont want to be tge puppet of my parente my ebtire life...i really want to do something on my own...take my own decisions, i want to come out of this situation any how....so please tell me ....from past few days whenever i try to study i alwas get reminded of the backlogs and that leaves me frustated and i am increasing my backlogs and doing nothing....please help me...i really need your guidance.....this is the first time i have ever shared my story with anyone ,otherwise usually i never had courage....so please please help me....tell me should i do and how should i focus on current and complete pendind work while attending 8 hrs of classes daily

      Delete
    3. Also thisbis important for me as i have list confidence in myslef earlier ibuemsed to be so confident about my love for civil services and had this do whatever it takes kind of an attitude but now i really have no confidence in me ....i am really lost ....and my parents constantly reminds me that if ater 4 years i fail in jee than i ll never be able to clear civil services as well....it hurts ....but i dont have the strength to raise my own voice ,i dont know i just feel scared and a part of me thinks that what if they are right ...what if i really wont be able to mak it ....yes i think i have lost my confidence ....so it is really important for me to crack jee this time ...and i really need a proper guidance since i find it hard to go to my teachers and tell them my story ,i really feel ashamed and a looser...for other people getting in to iits would be beacause thet are interested in engineering and inventions and technology ,but for me its only i want to get my life back...so please help me bhaiya
