Books for Physics

Here is an exhaustive list of Physics text books suggested for competitive exams.
The books which have been tagged as "Recommended" were used by me in some or the other way.
Note that I used a lot of books myself (I had a library of books at my home). However, you are not expected to buy them all. Use your own discretion here.
Also note that the books in the below link have been verified by me. At times I see people getting confused on which version to buy. The below versions are the ones that I myself used and are indeed worth a try.

  6. Aman bhaiyya is it good to give preference in such a manner to physics book regarding JEE advanced -1.NCERT Physics
    2.Fiitjee Study Package+Notes+CPPs
    3.HCV
    4.DC Pandey
    5.Irodov
I am a FIITJEE student and being an ex-FIITJEEian do you think that following such an order would be good for JEE advanced preparations.I care a little about any rank expectations at this stage rather it would be appropriate for me to focus on solving maximum no.of problems in tests, quizzes and phase tests.Do you think this is the right list?

    1. Sri Chaitanya and Narayana educational Institutions from AP are the most Rank getting Institutes and what they follow are barely a few books in this order for Theory : (i) NCERT / New Millenium PHYSICS series (ii) Their own material and for Practice (i) LIVE Physics ( Concept Application in various cases ) (ii) HCV Exercises (iii) Their own material / Cengage Books. That's it.

    1. Study hcv line by line and understand every concept properly then solve the solved problem by not looking at answers. Then try obj 1 and obj 2 then exercise..in hcv questions are linked with previous chapters so concept of previous chapters should also be clear and read ncert too.

  15. I got HC Verma and DC Pandey Set. (I'm in 11th).
I heard I.E. Irodov is too tough and beyond level for JEE Physics. Do I have to buy other book or will this be sufficient?

  16. Hello Aman,

I am studying in 11th and the institute I go has provided many good ranks in Gujarat... it's branch near my house is running like a school(idea of its director and our maths faculty)... It has also been certified as a school so No school attendance worries.. Also the semester system in 11th and 12th has been removed so whole 11th I need have to worry about my boards.....

    Now my question....
I have a schedule of 8 am to 11pm everyday and also 4pm to 7pm on alternate days...
On these alternate days I barely get 4 hours to study properly..... Though we are allowed to stay there till night and have our lunch in Tiffins... But I prefer to come home. The teachers are very supporting..... My question is how should I maintain my schedule???
And about books is HCV enough for advanced or should I Buy DC Pandey??
We are using RD sharma NCERT for practice and will buy SK Goyal Arihant for maths..... Your views on that? And please suggest just best and blindly Trustable books for Chemistry...... NCERT is always there!!

  18. Hey Aman!
So, I recently purchased Cengage series of books for Physics by BM Sharma. Should I purchase DC Pandey series as well? Need your opinion. What's your review of the Cengage series?
And by the way, congratulations for putting up such a great blog.
    Regards.

    1. Yes, I read Fundamentals of physics - Resnick halliday and walker. I wonder how the book disappointed you. Its the most recommended book for JEE preparation and I myself enjoyed reading it.
It indeed covers concepts in greater details than any other book with many examples and in-text problems to highlight the important approach that will be helpful to solve problems of similar type.
May I get answer to the following questions:
1.) Did you buy the original book?
2.) Did you read the book or did you skim through the chapters?
3.) Did you solve the problems?
4.) How many days have passed since you purchased it?
